games tried at school before:
Fall Party:
Pin the Hat on the Scarecrow - find someone artistic to create a scarecrow about 3 1/2 feet tall to be taped to the wall. Cut out however many hats you need and name each hat after a student. Have the kids turn around 3 times blindfolded and then place the hat on the scarecrow. Closest hat wins
Munch-a-Mallow - hang marshmallows off a long plank of wood (3 across) with string or something safe , then dangle them above the kids and have 3 kids at a time eat their marshmallows off the string---kind of like a dry version of bobbing for apples.
Fix Mr. Bones - At Walmart or Craft stores look for a cheap plastic skeleton you can disassemble and reassemble. buy 4 or 5 of them and have a race between groups of kids to get him reassembled.
Candy in the Hay Stack - bring in loose straw or hay, in a container such as a large plastic bin, swimming pool, etc, put candy all around it and mix in with the hay, give the kids (one at a time) an allotted time to find 3 pieces of candy
Scary Feel It Game - Put These items in a deep box, have the kids reach into figure out what they really are:
Damp, Course Sponge - Brains
Wet Macaroni Noodles - Brains
Twisted Chenille Stems - Spider
Pretzel Stick - Petrified Rat Tails
Dried Apricots - Dried-up Tongues
Spiderwebs
Cooked, Cold Spaghetti Noodles - Worms
Cooked, Cold Spaghetti Noodles - Veins
Peeled Grapes - Eyeballs
Fake Fur
Tines of a Plastic Fork - Vampire Teeth
Soft Flour Tortilla - Skin (can add a little oil)
Feed Corn - Teeth
Corn Husk Silk - Witches Hair
Slime
Baby dill pickles with pistachio shells pushed into the tip for witches fingers.
Over-cooked rice with raisins in cooking oil to feel like old bugs.
Mango slices in pudding feel like tongues in goo.
Lasagna noodles cooked and put in cooking oil feels like skin.
Olives in cooking oil feels like cat eyeballs.
Pumpkin filling mixed with mini marshmallows feels like brains when mixed.
Raisins covered in applesauce makes boogers, the apple sauce is the snot and makes it all lumpy and gooey.
For an especially scary box - leave the box empty but make a hole in the back. When they put their hand in to feel for the scary surprise. Reach in and grab their hand.
BONUS - Something that brings EXTRA fun to this game is to incorporate the items above into a story that is read to the class as the items are passed around. The spooky fun story uses each kid in the class in the story, just creat a short story about the kids going on a field trip or something and finding monster parts! Use your creativity or ask a high schooler to help who is interested in journalism or writing!
Ghost Bowling - Use plastic clear water bottles as the pins. Put rocks or sand in the bottom to add a little weight (experiment with you ball for best weight) - to make the bottles more festive, add a white material or fabric to the inside of each bottle. With a sharpie, draw a ghost face on each bottle. This will alleviate the mess of trying to paint or spray paint the bottles. Use a rubber ball of some sort for the Bowling ball.
Mummy Wrap - Toilet Paper is used to wrap each "mummy". The kids have a ton of fun with this one.
Christmas Party:
Snowball Toss - (take 5 or 6 styro foam balls (can be purchased at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or any craft store) these are the snowballs, find a small box to use as the target, wrap the box in gift wrap or decorate accordingly, have the students stand back 5-6 feet and one at a time and toss the snowballs in. Most snowballs made win!
Ice Fishing - create 12-15 fish made out of magnets - size can be 3" long. You can cut magnetic material with scissors - make ovals or if you are crafty, cut them into small fish shapes. On the non magnetic side, number off the fish 1, 2 or 3 with a sharpie and repeat. then have 3 candy or treat bags marked 1, 2 or 3. Next create your fishing poll, a long dowel road works or use a kids fishing pole if you are feeling ambitious. Then cut a larger magnet in the shape of a circle about 6" in Dia. Take the magnet and tape some string (or fishing line) to it from the fishing pole. Magnet side down. You may have to experiment with the magnet to see that it flops correctly towards the magnet fish. Next scatter the fish on the floor randomly about (magnet side up)...Then go fishing! The kids can fish and pick one fish up - find what number it is then have them take their gift from that bag. You can also have a couple fish that say "try again" instead of 1,2 or 3 for extra fun.
Kid Christmas Tree - Furnish 4 or 5 groups of kids with these ornaments: Paper stars, tinsil, paper ornaments etc. Give each group a few tape dispensers. Upon saying GO, have each group decorate one child as a christmas tree, with all the fixings. Have someone judge which tree is the best decorated.
Friendship Party:
Fishing for Friendship...variation of ice fishing/ghost fishing (see above)....cut out small hearts out of magnets and use a fishing pole with another magnet on it. Number the magnets (face numbers down on floor so kids cant see what they are getting) and then each number represents a treat or small gift
Spring Fling Party:
Easter egg hunts are very popular - if going outside mark off your classroom's area with cones, if raining (see if you can reserve the gym (turn off lights and give each kid a flashlight for finding eggs)---extra bonus points for somehow making them glow in the dark (u can purchase glow in the dark tape, etc materials at crafts stores etc)--still use a flashlight though for safety
Easter Bowling - Use plastic clear water bottles as the pins. Put rocks or sand in the bottom to add a little weight (experiment with you ball for best weight) - to make the bottles more festive, we went to walmart and bought different colored easter grass. Stuff into each bottle and voila! Colorful Bowling pins without the mess of trying to paint or spray paint the bottles. Use a rubber ball of some sort for the Bowling ball.
